Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry Signs Proclamation Declaring Police Week at State Capitol
Baton Rouge, LA — In a significant ceremony held yesterday at the Louisiana State Capitol, Governor Jeff Landry signed a proclamation designating this week as Police Week, underscoring the state's commitment to honoring and supporting its law enforcement officers.
The event was attended by members from multiple law enforcement associations, including the Louisiana Fraternal Order of Police, Louisiana State Troopers Association, Louisiana Sheriffs Association, and the Louisiana Chiefs of Police. The ceremony highlighted the collective appreciation for the dedication and sacrifices made by police officers across the state.
“Every day, our men and women in law enforcement sacrifice so much to keep our communities safe. We owe a debt of gratitude to our officers, as well as those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation and our State. Today, I was honored to be joined by members of the Fraternal Order of Police, Louisiana Chief’s Association, Louisiana State Troopers, and the Louisiana Sheriff’s Association to sign an Executive Order to ensure Louisiana publicly honors the service and sacrifice of our men and women in blue,” said Governor Jeff Landry.
The proclamation signing was complemented by similar legislative actions in both the Louisiana Senate and House of Representatives. Both chambers passed resolutions in recognition of Police Week, spearheaded by Senator Blake Miguez and Representatives Bacala, Wiley, Fontenot, and Boyer. Representative Jeff Wiley read the resolution in the House.
This week's proclamation and the legislative resolutions are part of a broader national observance of Police Week, which serves to commemorate law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty and to acknowledge the ongoing commitment of those currently serving.
