Overall, the Louisiana Fraternal Order of Police knows we did well. A special thanks to Mapes and Mapes, our governmental liaisons and to 2nd Vice President Powell and her legislative committee for all of the hard work this session.
We saw a permanent increase in funding for the budget, which meant a $100 increase in state supplemental pay. This goes into effect July 1 when the new fiscal year begins.
We saw the passage of HB 85 which creates a 25 foot safety zone for law enforcement officers. The Governor has to sign both pieces of legislation for them to become law. You can email the Governor by clicking here to let him know the importance of this legislation.
We were able to amend several pieces of legislation and stop others that would have been harmful to law enforcement. See the Legislative Guide for more details..
There has been a change in concealed carry requirements for retirees, more information will be distributed to members next week regarding the changes and how it affects you.
Thanks to the House and Senate members that support law enforcement in the Capitol.
