Police Reform
In Louisiana, we need consensus models and standards for police departments across the State. The last thing we want is bad cops on the street because they create injustice, destroy community trust, and undercut officers dedicated to the protection of life and property.
Many departments are doing the right thing, with good policies on screening, training, and supervision. Remember that police administrators are responsible for hiring, discipline, and training of law enforcement officers. We are responsible for defending the rights of these officers when they are under investigation.
We also support training programs for police agencies involving de-escalation skills to successfully resolve situations with minimized or no force at all.
