Day in the Rotunda
The Louisiana Legislature will convene March 9th and the LAFOP Legislative Committee has been working for the past weeks with our Governmental Liaison Firm, Mapes & Mapes to prepare for this session. We would like to remind members that the most important part of the Legislative process is you, our member, a constituent of Louisiana's Senators and Representatives. Because of this, our organization works with a grass roots foundation and part of that foundation is this Session's "Day in the Rotunda".
On Tuesday, May 5th the LAFOP has reserved tables in the Rotunda at the State Capital. We are requesting that local lodges send members that day to meet with your current Representatives and Senators.
The Legislative Committee will have handouts prepared for the members to give to their Legislators for the LAFOP positions during the current session. Members that attend do not need to be well versed in the issues because we want this to be an occasion where the Legislator is putting a name and face with the organization.
Legislative Committee members will be present along with members of our Governmental Liaison Firm. We will be recognized in both Chambers that day, be prepared to stay all day because schedules change at the Capitol daily.
The LAFOP will pay for one hotel room for lodges that are traveling more than 75 miles to Baton Rouge. Reservations can be made at the Hotel Indigo by calling (225) 343-1515 and telling them you are with the FOP group or by clicking this link to make your online reservation. Reservations must be made by April 13th.
If you have questions please feel free to contact President Darrell Basco ([email protected]) or Dawn Powell, Legislative Committee Chairman ([email protected]).
